Heading: Japanese Puzzle Boxes

These "Himitsu-Bako" boxes come from the Hakone region of Japan. The complicated construction of the box as well as the intricate wood inlay are traditional techniques dating back over 100 years. A series of several steps is needed to open each box. "Sun" is a traditional Japanese unit of measure to denote length. 1 Sun is about 30.3 mm.
